Erel Light Guide (MapleStory v.271): Sentinels, Erda Link, Bossing

How Erel Light works in GMS v.271: the Spear of Lugh loop, Shining Sentinels, where the Erda Link damage really comes from, what v.271 changed, and who should main the class.

This Erel Light guide covers the class as it plays in Global MapleStory v.271 (live since September 9, 2026) and was checked in October 2026. Erel Light arrived on June 17, 2026 with the v.269 "Ride the Lightning" update, is only creatable in the Global service according to Grandis Library, and three months later still sits third on Ereklo Game's September top-ten list. The class is strong, but it is strong for a specific kind of player, and its 6th-job system is different enough from HEXA that veterans misspend fragments on it.

New here? Start with this

Erel Light is a STR warrior of the SHINE class group. The weapon is a Gram, the secondary is a Keir, and the fantasy is a spear-wielding captain who summons soldiers of light called Shining Sentinels.

The loop is simple to describe:

  1. Spear of Lugh is the main attack you hold or tap.
  2. Fury of Roan (2nd job) and Sting of Roan (4th job) can be fired with no casting animation while Spear of Lugh is going. You weave them in rather than stopping to cast.
  3. Each successful weave creates Shield of Chulainn, a protective shield. Attacking properly is also how you stay alive.
  4. Summons and buffs go down on cooldown: Spear of Light (a planted Gram that hits everything around it), Sentinel Rise (eight Sentinels) and Eternal Guardian (the Sentinel Captain) from 5th job.

For hyper passives, Grandis Library's overview lists Spear of Lugh Reinforce, Extra Strike and Boss Rush, plus Reinforce for both Roan skills. For Inner Ability it lists Passive Skills +1 first, then Boss Damage.

Level the character normally to 260; the beginner guide covers that stretch. The class-specific decisions begin at 6th job.

Grandis Library's summary of the defensive side: one 10-second invincibility on a 120-second cooldown, a barrier, a short damage-reduction skill, and no bind of its own beyond the 10-second one on a 360-second cooldown. That last point is the kit's real hole. You line up burst with a party member's bind or with Sol Hecate.

Account value is high. The Legion bonus is Boss Damage (up to +6%), and the Link Skill, Guiding Stars, gives Buff Duration +10% and Critical Damage +3% on its own. It stacks with Sia Astelle's copy to reach +19% and +6%.

MisusingTV's guide is the most complete video walkthrough; its chapters cover Inner Ability, hypers, nodes, a long section on 6th-job priority and "Shinestones", sequence setup and the burst rotation.

SHINE classes do not use the HEXA Matrix. They use Erda Link, a node tree introduced with Sia Astelle. The stone types, from the official notes:

The Erda Link tree · Image: Nexon
  • Origin Stone: active after 6th job, enhanced to Lv. 30. Erel Light's holds Fall of Melin and Radiant Spear.
  • Ultimate Stones: enhance Spear of Lugh, Fury of Roan and Sting of Roan. Each needs its V Matrix boost at Lv. 40 first.
  • Skill Stones: boost the four 5th-job skills, and need the 5th-job node at Lv. 25. v.271 added a third common Skill Stone, SHINE Tree of Stars, which deals damage and raises Attack Power and Damage.
  • Rush and Boost Stones: one-off stat nodes.
  • SHINE Stones ("Shinestones"): stat stones that go to Lv. 20, cost mesos as well as fragments, and from Lv. 11 can fail and lose a level.

The Erel Light Discord's progression sheet puts numbers on all of this. At full investment it counts about 138% Final Damage over a fresh 6th-job character for roughly 42,222 fragments and 1,303 Sol Erda.

Bar chart of Final Damage contributed by each part of Erel Light's Erda Link tree, led by Spear of Lugh at 40.7 percent

Two things stand out. Spear of Lugh alone is worth more than every 5th-job Skill Stone combined, and Shinestones are the second-largest block. Sentinel Rise, the flashiest skill, is worth about 3%.

The sheet's opening order follows from that:

First fragments after 6th job

The first level of Spear of Lugh is valued at roughly 16% Final Damage for about 100 fragments. Nothing else in the game is that efficient, which is why a low-funded Erel Light feels strong immediately. The sheet's authors take Sol Hecate and the Ascent skill at level 1 earlier than pure damage would suggest; their note says the bind and the iFrame are worth it for comfort.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Front-loaded power: two unlocks give about a quarter more Final Damage.
  • A 10-second invincibility, a shield that refreshes through normal play and a status cleanse.
  • Farming: players in the r/Maplestory megathread describe dropping the summon with Sol Janus and resting for a minute after Lv. 260.
  • Low entry cost for bossing. A boss-mule thread names Erel Light alongside Hayato as able to clear the Chaos Arcane River bosses at around 40 million Combat Power, against 50 to 60 million for most classes.

Weaknesses

  • No two-minute bind.
  • Roughly half the damage is sustained. One megathread answer contrasts it with Hayato: Erel has several short cooldowns to press as they come up, and those same skills carry its survivability. Stop pressing and you lose both.
  • Shinestone upgrades above Lv. 10 are a gamble.
  • Opinion is not unanimous. Ereklo Game's guide title calls it the best class for new players, while the title of Rath GMS's first-impressions video from June says the class left him underwhelmed.

Who should play it: players who want a top-ranked main and like being busy during a fight. If you want to press a burst and then only dodge, read the Hayato guide instead.

Heroic or Interactive

The class is identical in both. The difference is fragments: Erel Light's early power comes from a few hundred Sol Erda Fragments, which on Heroic worlds come only from your own play and events such as the current Go Go Sidekick deployments (up to 500 per clear, three claims a week until November 3). The SHINE launch pass that funded new Erel Lights ended on September 8.

For veterans

  • v.271 retuned the common skills per job. For Erel Light, Erda Shower went from 900% to 1,208% and Sol Janus's Cyclic Ring from 690% to 1,352%, while Primal Crystal dipped from 1,035% to 1,002%. Farming setups built on Janus got better.
  • Sol Hecate was nerfed for everyone (Styx 2,503% to 1,427%), but the sheet still values Hecate at about 13% Final Damage in total, mostly for the bind.
  • Erda-gated or fragment-gated? The published order assumes fragments are the bottleneck. The sheet's own advice for Erda-gated players: one-Erda stat stones are high value, level-1 skill stone unlocks are low value, and Shinestones cost no further Erda once unlocked.
  • Boss-specific bug fixes landed in v.270: Spear of Lugh misbehaving when hit by certain Kaling attacks, and being usable repeatedly in some areas, were both fixed.
  • Ring rework. With v.271 you can wear Ring of Restraint or Continuous Ring together with one passive special ring. The Continuous Ring is now a 30-second effect with no cooldown, which suits a class with this much sustained damage.
