If you are searching for the best MapleStory classes 2026 has to offer, this list is built for Global MapleStory v.271 (live since September 9, 2026) and was checked in October 2026. v.271 itself was not a big balance patch, so the picture below is the one set by the summer updates: the Sengoku remaster in February and the SHINE classes still sit on top of every creator ranking, and the players clearing bosses on thin budgets say the same thing.

New here? Start with this

"Best" in MapleStory means two different things. A main is the character you will play for months, so comfort matters more than charts. A boss mule is a side character that kills weekly bosses for mesos, so cheap damage matters most. Grandis Library's advice to newcomers is to pick what looks fun, because every class is weak early and published damage charts assume gear you will not have for a long time.

Three terms used below:

  • Bind: a skill that freezes a boss, normally for 10 seconds. Classes with their own bind line up burst damage more easily.
  • iFrame: a moment of invincibility. More and longer iFrames mean fewer deaths while you learn patterns.
  • Legion and Link Skill: bonuses every character gives to the rest of your account once levelled. A good pick is useful even after you stop playing it.

How the list was built

Ereklo Game's "TOP 10 Classes" video from September 14 orders its picks Hayato, Kanna, Erel, Sia, Lynn, Cadena, Zero, Shadower, Night Lord, Night Walker and Adele. Duky's boss-mule tier list from late August opens with the same four names: Hayato, Kanna, Erel Light and Sia Astelle. The r/Maplestory megathread and a current boss-mule thread supply the "easy" half: which of those classes people actually recommend to players without much practice. Cadena and Zero are in the creator rankings but are left out here because commenters describe Cadena as taking months to learn and Zero's guide as complicated.

The eight picks

Hayato

Remastered on February 4, 2026. Hayato's attacks split into fast Shinsoku skills and slow, heavy Battou skills; Battou hits switch on the Akatsuki state for extra Final Damage and Ignore Defense. Players describe the class as almost all burst, on one- and two-minute cycles, with what one commenter calls the best life steal in the game. A boss-mule thread says Hayato and Erel Light can clear the Chaos-tier Arcane River bosses at around 40 million Combat Power with event HEXA fragments invested, where other classes are quoted at 50 to 60 million.

Weaknesses: little to do between bursts, a single bind on a 360-second cooldown in Grandis Library's overview, and mobbing that players call mediocre. One r/Maplestory commenter sums it up: "The best class if you dont have hands but still wanna clear high bosses."

Kanna

Rebuilt in the same February update into a summoner. Three Shikigami (Oni, Tengu and Orochi) fight on their own and take [Order] commands, her fan became one-handed and she now equips a Talisman. Grandis Library lists two binds, a 10-second one every 120 seconds plus the 360-second one, and a Link Skill worth +20% damage for 12 seconds.

Weakness: it is effectively a new class. Old Kanna guides, and the old habit of treating her as a farming support, no longer apply.

Erel Light

The newest class, released June 17, 2026 and only creatable in Global MapleStory. A STR warrior who fights alongside summoned Shining Sentinels, with a 10-second invincibility on a two-minute cooldown and a protective shield. Players rate its summon highly for farming after Lv. 260.

Weakness: about half its damage comes from short-cooldown skills, so it rewards constant attention more than Hayato does. Details in our Erel Light guide.

Sia Astelle

The first SHINE class (June 2025), an INT magician. Her own bind lasts 13 seconds every two minutes, and her Link Skill stacks with Erel Light's to reach +19% Buff Duration and +6% Critical Damage.

Weakness: Grandis Library lists eleven separate timed buffs. She is strong, but not a one-button class.

Lynn

An INT magician with one of the best Link Skills for bossing: 11% Boss Damage and 10% Critical Rate at max level. Her kit includes a barrier and a 40-second buff that blocks one death.

Weakness: part of her Final Damage only switches on with two or more party members, so she is worth less to a strictly solo player.

Shadower

The Explorer thief got real buffs in v.269 (Dagger Mastery Final Damage 6% to 9%, Flip of the Coin 20% to 24%, among others). It has a 1.8-second invincibility every 20 seconds, which is a lot of chances to ignore a mistake.

Weakness: no two-minute bind of its own, and zero Boss Damage from passives, so gear has to supply it.

Adele

A STR warrior with her own two-minute bind and a Link Skill that adds 6% Boss Damage to every other character. She is tenth of ten on Ereklo's list, which still means "top ten".

Ren

Released November 2025. Not on the power rankings, but the megathread's description is why it is here: hold attack and move, then a short burst every two minutes. Players call the damage average, so choose Ren for comfort, not for speed.

What each pick gives the rest of your account

Legion and Link value of each pick

If you are torn between two classes, this table usually settles it. Kanna and Erel Light both add Boss Damage to your Legion; Hayato's Link Skill is a flat 7% Critical Damage for any character that already has 100% Critical Rate.

Heroic or Interactive: does the pick change?

Mostly no. The class list and skills are the same. The difference is funding: Interactive players can buy gear for a new character on the Auction House, while a Heroic boss mule has to wait for its own drops, which is why low-funding classes such as Hayato and Erel Light are valued even more on Heroic worlds.

For veterans

  • v.271 moved numbers quietly. True Arachnid Reflection and Solar Crest now deal job-specific damage on a 230-second cooldown (was 250). Erda Shower was rescaled per class, from a flat 900% to anywhere between 970% and 3,525%, with Kanna getting the top figure. Using an Origin Skill now shaves cooldown off your one-to-two-minute skills, and Sol Hecate was cut hard for everyone (Styx from 2,503% to 1,427%).
  • Burst windows changed with the ring rework. Continuous Ring is now a 30-second effect without a cooldown and can be worn together with a passive ring. Classes with long burst strings benefit most.
  • Korea just rebalanced everything. Orange Mushroom's write-up of the October 2 Korean patch describes a rebalance that improved mobility and removed synergy skills for all jobs. That is Korean-server news with no announced GMS date, and Hayato, Kanna, Erel Light, Sia Astelle and Lynn do not exist there, so it will not map one-to-one. Still, do not over-invest in a mule purely because of today's chart.
  • No Hyper Burning is running. If the plan is a new mule, the megathread's best guess for the next burning event is mid-November. That is a guess, not an announcement.
