This MapleStory Hayato guide is written for Global MapleStory v.271 (live since September 9, 2026) and was checked in October 2026. Hayato was rebuilt from the ground up on February 4, 2026 in the v.266 "Sengoku Warrior Reawakening" update, and eight months later it is first on Ereklo Game's top-ten list and the first class Duky covers in his boss-mule tier list. If you last played Hayato before the remaster, almost nothing you remember applies.
New here? Start with this
Hayato is a STR warrior that uses a Katana with a Kodachi as secondary weapon. Grandis Library notes the class exists only in the Japan, China, Global, SEA and Taiwan services, so Korean guides do not cover it.
Everything in the kit belongs to one of two families:
- Shinsoku skills are fast cuts. Mist Slash is the basic attack and is upgraded by a mastery passive at each job. Grazing Cut and Crescent Moon Cut double as movement.
- Battou skills are slow, heavy draws: Crossing Draw (2nd job), Dark Moon Cut (3rd), Full Moon's Rage (4th) and Wailing Heavens (5th).
The rule that ties them together: using a Battou skill puts you in the Akatsuki state, which raises Final Damage and Ignore Defense. So you never just spam the fast skill. You open with a draw, then fill with Shinsoku cuts while the state is running.
Setup that Grandis Library lists for a fresh character:
- Hyper passives: Shinsoku Reinforce and Boss Rush, Battou Reinforce and Boss Rush, Reactive Focus Cooldown Cutter.
- Inner Ability for bossing: Boss Damage +20% on the first line.
- Stats: Auto Assign into STR.
Hayato's Legion bonus is Critical Damage (up to +6%), and its new Link Skill gives +7% Critical Damage to any character that already has 100% Critical Rate and 50% Critical Damage. Even if you never main it, a Lv. 210 Hayato pays for itself.
The four states
Akatsuki is your normal fighting state. The official text caps it at 60 seconds, and Grandis Library lists it at +50% Final Damage and +20% Ignore Defense.
Shogetsu Form is the 5th-job upgrade of the same idea: +100% Final Damage and +50% Ignore Defense (slightly more with 6th-job levels), immunity to knockback, and enhanced versions of every Battou skill. This is the burst window.
Noto is the reason the class hits so hard in short bursts. You sheathe the blade, and the next Battou skill cancels Noto and comes out with +200% Final Damage. Noto can also be used during another skill to cut its ending delay.
Shuchu, from Reactive Focus, is the defensive button: get hit while it is active and you counter and become briefly invincible.
Heavier draws add more state time:
In practice that means Wailing Heavens is not only a damage skill; it is what keeps the state alive through a full burst.
5th and 6th job
The 5th-job skill nodes are Shogetsu Form, Crashing Tide (a circular cut around you), Light Cutter (a sprint-and-cut) and Wailing Heavens. Since the v.269 V Matrix revamp you buy levels with V Points, so there is no node gambling. Put points into the four skill nodes first, then the boosts whose skills get a HEXA mastery node later: Mist Slash, Afterimage Slash, Crescent Moon Cut with Dark Moon Cut, Full Moon's Rage and Silent Arc.
At 6th job the Origin skill is Shin Quick Draw and the Ascent skill is Fleeting Breath. Mastery nodes pair Mist Slash with Afterimage Slash, and Crescent Moon Cut with Silent Arc, with separate nodes for Dark Moon Cut and Full Moon's Rage. v.271 added a third common node for the Sengoku pair, HEXA Twilight Bloom.

Duky's remaster guide is the long-form reference. Its chapter list tells you which questions the class raises: whether it is a burst or sustained class, cooldown hat versus stat hat, survivability, and a dedicated section on rotations.
How it plays, according to people who main it
The r/Maplestory megathread is blunt about Hayato, and the comments agree with each other:
- Bossing is burst on one- and two-minute cycles. One answer describes the split as almost no sustained damage and all burst; between windows you dodge and attack only to heal.
- It is hard to die. Commenters credit strong life steal and fast movement; the kit also has a parry that reduces damage and Warrior's Heart, which has a chance to restore HP on critical hits. Grandis Library lists a 2-second iFrame on parry and a 3-second one on a two-minute cooldown.
- It needs little funding. In a current boss-mule thread, Hayato is one of two classes said to clear the Chaos-tier Arcane River bosses at around 40 million Combat Power with event fragments invested, where other classes are quoted at 50 to 60 million.
- Mobbing is ordinary. Players call it mediocre. There is a full-map skill on a 12-second cooldown, but one commenter says using it every spawn wave takes a -4 second cooldown hat, which is expensive.
The same megathread has the counterpoint. One commenter calls post-remaster Hayato the strongest and also the most boring class in the game, and advises funding it only as a mule.
Strengths, weaknesses, and who should play it
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|
| Highest-ranked class on current creator lists | Very little damage outside burst windows |
| Clears mid-game bosses on low Combat Power | Only bind is the 10-second one on a 360-second cooldown |
| Life steal, parry and counter make mistakes cheap | Farming is average without a costly cooldown hat |
| Strong Link Skill and Legion bonus | Some players find the loop dull after a few weeks |
Play Hayato if you want a boss mule that works with little investment, or a main for learning boss patterns without dying to every mistake. Skip it if you enjoy constant damage and a busy keyboard; Erel Light is the better fit, and our class round-up lists others.
If the burst sequence is what holds you back, a coaching session on your own character is the fastest fix.
Heroic or Interactive
Nothing about the kit changes. On Heroic worlds, where every mule earns five times the Interactive crystal value but must gear itself, a class that clears early with weak gear is worth more, which is much of why Hayato dominates Heroic mule discussions. On Interactive you can buy the gear, so the gap to other classes is smaller.
For veterans
- v.271 buffed Hayato's common skills. Erda Shower went from 900% to 2,430% and Sol Janus's Cyclic Ring from 690% to 2,224%. Farming with Janus is noticeably better than at launch.
- Astra Kodachi. v.270's Astra Secondary Weapon covers Hayato. The third quest stage allows up to 30-Star Force on the secondary; it needs Lv. 265 and Vestiges of Erion from Grandis dailies and bosses.
- Ring rework favours short bursts. Ring of Restraint's zone is about 95% larger and re-creates on recast, and you can now pair it with a passive special ring. Passive rings are capped at Lv. 4, and old Lv. 5 and 6 rings were refunded.
- Origin cooldown acceleration. Since v.271, using an Origin Skill shortens the remaining cooldown of your 60 to 120 second skills by the Origin cast time, which lines up neatly with a two-minute burst class.
- Essenia's two-minute mule video lists the practical pieces in its chapters: a Grazing Cut plus Mist Slash macro, a burst sequence, and separate two-minute, Origin and off-burst sections. Watch it once before building a sequence of your own.
- No burning event is active. Princess Sakuno's Support ended in March and Hyper Burning MAX on September 8, so a new Hayato today levels the slow way.
