This WoW Midnight Season 2 gearing guide was checked in October 2026 and reflects the 12.1.5 content update of October 13, the mid-season refresh. The ceiling has moved twice this season: first when Blizzard put item level 344 loot on the last two Mythic raid bosses, and now with Ascendant Venomstones, a second weekly bonus roll, Myth-track armor from a solo mega Delve and the removal of the crest cap. Here is the system in one place, then a weekly plan.

New here? Start with this

  • Every piece of gear belongs to a track. Tracks overlap, so the top of one equals the lower ranks of the next.
  • Mistcrests are the upgrade currency. There is one type per track, and harder content drops the better type.
  • The Great Vault in Silvermoon gives one extra item per week based on what you completed.
  • The Catalyst in Silvermoon turns a matching item into a tier-set piece. Completing a four-piece set unlocks the achievement that lets Catalyst charges drop from raids, Mythic+ and Delves, so Method's advice is to convert early, even on weak items.

If you are still below item level 290 or so, read our beginner guide first; this article assumes you can already run Mythic 0.

Above the Myth track sit two special cases. Items from Mythic Coiled Altar and Mythic Ula'tek are item level 344. And from the week of October 20, Ascendant Venomstones push a fully upgraded weapon, trinket or necklace further: Hero from 321 to 328, Myth from 334 to 340, a crafted Myth weapon from 331 to 338.

Where Mistcrests come from

Per Method's table, a completed keystone pays:

  • +2 and +3: 12 and 14 Champion Mistcrests.
  • +4 to +8: 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 Hero Mistcrests.
  • +9 to +12: 10, 12, 14 and 16 Myth Mistcrests. Twelve is the last step; higher keys pay the same.

Raid bosses pay 10 to 20 crests of their difficulty's type, more for later bosses. Ula'tek on Normal and Heroic adds 10 crests of the tier above.

Each crest type has had a weekly cap all season, and overflow converts to the type below. Blizzard's 12.1.5 article states that the crest cap is lifted the week of October 20. If you banked nothing, that is the week your backlog of half-upgraded items stops being a problem.

The Great Vault after the Season 2 rework

  • Raid row: two, four and six bosses. Rewards are one difficulty higher than what you killed: Raid Finder gives Champion, Normal gives Hero, Heroic gives Myth 1/6. Mythic kills give Myth 6/6, and the last two Mythic bosses give 344.
  • Dungeon row: one, four and eight keystones. Runs at +10 and above give Myth 1/6 (318). There is no vault reason to go beyond +10.
  • World row: a Tier 8 Delve or a Nightmare Prey hunt gives Hero 1/6 (305). This row never gives Myth.

In 12.1.5 the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan feeds the world row too. Method reports that three chambers count as one Delve at the tier you chose, so a full nine-chamber run fills all three world slots in one sitting.

Bonus rolls: two a week now

Nebulous Voidcores are bonus rolls. You get them two ways:

  1. Swap a vault reward. With three vault slots filled you can take a Voidcore instead of an item.
  2. Buy one from Orin Straylight. After Prismatic Potential and the follow-up Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst, he sells one per week for 5,000 gold, 2,000 Voidlight Marl or 100 Veteran Mistcrests.

A roll gives loot at the item level the vault would give for that content: Myth 1/6 from a +10 or a Heroic boss, 334 from a Mythic boss, 344 from the last two Mythic bosses. A raid boss costs one core. An item you receive is removed from that source's bonus pool, which makes repeated rolls on one boss progressively more targeted.

The practical use: roll on Heroic for your best trinket or weapon and receive it on the Myth track. The Unbinding of Kith'ix, the 12.1.5 single-boss raid, also accepts rolls; Method lists ten items on its table, all dropping at 3/6 of their track.

Labyrinth: Myth armor for solo players

Method's pre-launch guide describes two fragment types in the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan:

  • Heroic Soul Fragments come from its Bountiful Coffers. Three combine into a random Hero 2/6 Delve item.
  • Mythical Soul Fragments come from quests inside. Three combine into a Venerated Loa Armament, which lets you choose a piece of Myth-track armor.

Rewards scale with chambers cleared, up to six Heavy Trunks and three Bountiful Coffers for all nine, and the coffers still need Restored Coffer Keys. The guide's author could not confirm how often the Mythical fragment quests appear and guessed weekly.

A weekly plan that wastes nothing

Weekly gearing order for Midnight Season 2 after patch 12.1.5
A weekly order of operations, assembled from Blizzard's 12.1.5 article and Method's gearing guides
  1. Open the vault. Take the item unless nothing is an upgrade, in which case take the Voidcore.
  2. Buy Orin's weekly Voidcore with Marl or Veteran crests rather than gold if you have them.
  3. Kill raid bosses on the highest difficulty you can for two, four or six vault slots, and spend rolls on your priority items.
  4. Run keys at +10 or higher for Myth vault slots, and at +12 if you still need Myth crests.
  5. Clear the Labyrinth for world slots and fragments; use coffer keys at Tier 8 or above.
  6. From October 20, collect 10 Ascendant Venomstones and ascend your weapon first.

For veterans

  • Ascending is final. Method notes that an Ascended item cannot receive further upgrades, and that items already at 344 cannot be ascended. Finish the crest upgrades first; the stones only work on fully upgraded Hero, Myth or maximum-quality Tidal crafted items.
  • Venomstone sources are narrower than crest sources: Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and the Champion chests from your first two Nightmare Prey hunts each week.
  • Start Orin's timer. Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom appears the week of October 13 and the stones only unlock a reset later. Method gives October 20 for North America and October 21 for Europe.
  • Crafted ceiling. A crafted item made with the top crests is 331, below a 6/6 Myth piece at 334. Use sparks for embellishments and for slots where the vault keeps failing you.
  • Delver's Bounty. One Hero 1/6 item per week comes from using a Delver's Bounty in a Tier 8 or higher Delve before the last boss dies.
  • Solo Myth is slow by design. A long forum thread argues the weekly Myth crest income from solo content only fully upgrades a couple of items over the patch. Replies point out that the system expects you to run +9 to +12 keys for crests; the uncap on October 20 is what makes that worth doing.
  • Extra Catalyst charges come from Ahead of the Curve, Keystone Master or 1,800 PvP rating.
