A good Diablo 4 Season 15 gold farm looks different from last season's, because patch 3.2.1 tripled Tree of Whispers gold and rebalanced where most materials come from. This guide covers Season of Hell's Legacy on patch 3.2.2 and was checked in October 2026. It is built mostly on wudijo's public Season 15 farming sheet, Maxroll's Optimal Farming Guide and Blizzard's patch notes, so every number below has a named source.

New here? Start with this

You do not need a special route early. Three habits cover most of it:

  • Always work on Tree of Whispers. Whisper caches got large buffs in 3.2.1, and you fill them while doing everything else. Pick the Gold Cache when you are short on gold and the material caches otherwise.
  • Sell spare Legendary Seals. wudijo values a vendored Legendary Seal at roughly 13 million gold, which makes them the simplest gold item to pick up.
  • Use War Plans. Each activity has a small skill tree, and several of the best farms below are War Plans nodes.

Gold

The patch notes are the starting point. Whisper Gold Caches now pay about three times as much: at Torment XII the reward went from roughly 35 million to roughly 100 million gold. The same patch fixed Gilded enemies dropping far less gold than intended.

On top of that, in order of how little effort they take:

  1. Whisper Gold Caches at the highest Torment you clear comfortably.
  2. Vendoring Legendary Seals. Both wudijo and Maxroll's endgame guide list this.
  3. Golden Hoard, a Lair Boss War Plans node. wudijo estimates about 20 million gold per kill.
  4. Vile Splendor Nightmare Dungeons, which wudijo rates above Gold Reserve dungeons and Escalations.
  5. Gold Drop Rate rolls. Charms and Squirt's Blouse can roll 100-125% Gold Drop Rate, which his notes say stacks additively with difficulty bonuses.

One small extra from the rune pool: a community database of game data lists the Ral rune as granting 250% Gold Find for 7 seconds when it triggers.

wudijo also has a dedicated video titled How to Farm 10+ BILLION Gold per Hour. I have not watched it and will not guess at the method, but it tells you what the ceiling looks like for an optimised character.

Obducite

Bar chart of Obducite per minute by activity in Diablo 4, from Maxroll's Optimal Farming Guide
Strongrooms and Undercity tributes are in a different league

Maxroll's numbers put Horadric Strongrooms at about 350 Obducite per minute at Torment 12 and the Undercity with a Greater Tribute of Refinement at about 330. A plain Tribute of Refinement is around 125, Infernal Hordes around 100, and normal Nightmare Dungeons 80 to 100 depending on how you run them.

The Strongroom method: open a Nightmare Dungeon with the Horadric Strongroom affix, kill elites on the way to the room, clear it, leave. wudijo's sheet adds Astaroth (the boss at the end of Escalating Nightmares) and the Chaos Rifts War Plans node. The Urn of Masterworking Season Blessing also raises the chance of extra Obducite.

Keys, Souls, gems and Cube dust

Cheat sheet table of the best Season 15 sources for gold, Obducite, Lair Boss keys, Forgotten Souls, gems, Cube dust, Soul Splinters and classic runes
Best source first, backup second

Lair Boss keys. Both sources agree: Helltide with the Writhe and Rot node, where the maggots from Hellwyrms drop keys. Greater Lair Keys come from killing the regular Lair Bosses, and Superior Lair Keys from Belial ambushes.

Forgotten Souls. Maxroll ranks the Greater Material Cache from Tree of Whispers first. wudijo adds Lair Bosses and Materials Reserve dungeons, and one loot-filter tip: do not hide non-Ancestral Uniques, because the Baleful Fragments from salvaging them convert at the Alchemist. Patch 3.2.1 also made Souls less scarce: Royal Gems dropped from 30 to 10 Souls, Grand Gems from 300 to 50, enchanting Ancestral items from 25 to 10, and Tributes of Refinement now award Souls.

Gem Fragments. Escalating Nightmares with a Gem Reserve affix are Maxroll's top source. Since 3.2.1, elites in Torment X and above drop far more fragments and can drop Royal Gems. wudijo also lists the Refuge of the Lost dungeon in Skovos.

Primordial Dust. Nightmare Dungeons with the Nemesis and Fearless Conviction nodes, simply because of how many elites you kill. Maxroll calls this the only reliable farm for Attuned Dust.

Escalations multiply everything. wudijo's note is that most loot scales heavily inside Escalation dungeons: double in tier 1, triple in tier 2, four times in tier 3. Escalation keys are crafted at the Occultist from five normal Nightmare Dungeon keys.

Soul Splinters and runes

Soul Splinters are tied to gem types. wudijo's Splinter tab pairs them like this, and his note is to farm the gem type that matches the Splinter you want, for example in that gem's Reserve dungeons:

He counts about 10 Magic Splinters per tier 2 Escalation and about 17 per tier 3. Combining takes five of a kind per step, so a Unique Splinter costs 125 Magic ones.

The classic runes (Ber, Ith, Lo and the rest) drop from the Prime Evil Capstones on Hell difficulty; the Countess is a slower option. The Cube converts upward, per Maxroll's secrets page: three of a low rune make the next one (the last low steps also need a chipped gem), and from Mal onward it is two runes plus a gem, ending at two Lo and a Grand Topaz for a Ber and two Ber and a Grand Sapphire for a Jah.

For veterans

  • Corrupted Roots are regional. wudijo's table: Fractured Peaks gives Neathiron and Sapphires, Scosglen Sigil Powder and Amethysts, Dry Steppes Obducite and Rubies, Kehjistan Scattered Prisms and Topaz, Hawezar Forgotten Souls and Skulls, Nahantu Scrolls of Restoration and Emeralds, Skovos Volatile Dust and Diamonds.
  • Not every Waking Nightmare is worth it. His ratings: Unholy Altar is good, Halls of the Blind middling, and Tal Rasha's Tomb, Lester's Farm, Scouring of Caldeum and Forgotten Tower bad. Among Helltide pop-ups he takes Dahlgur Oasis and Cornerstone and skips most others.
  • Sigil Powder changed. Salvaging a Legendary Tribute now returns 500 powder and a Mythic Tribute 2,500, while crafting a Hordes Compass costs 500 instead of 666.
  • Sparks. His sheet calls the Tree of Whispers node for Resplendent Sparks bait; salvage Mythics instead.
  • Launch exploits are gone. Hotfix 4 on September 22 raised the loot cooldown on the Prime Evil Council after it was used for excessive loot, and stopped The Butcher from being spawned endlessly. Patch 3.2.2 fixed the Edge runeword handing out two items per Purveyor purchase. Be wary of farm videos from the first week.
  • Experience. The sheet still lists Hellwyrm hunting in Helltide at about 2 billion experience per hour.
