This PoE 2 endgame guide covers the Atlas as it stands in patch 0.5.5 (Forbidden Rites), checked in October 2026. The endgame was rebuilt in May's 0.5.0 update, Return of the Ancients, and 0.5.5 smoothed several of its rough edges, so advice written before those patches about towers, Atlas points and respecs no longer applies. What follows is an order of operations: what to do first, what to ignore until later, and what your gear should look like at each step.

New here? Start with this

The endgame opens when you finish the fourth Act and the three Interludes. Maxroll places it around level 65: you speak to Doryani in the Ziggurat and get a map device. From then on you spend Waystones to open maps on an endless world map called the Atlas.

Four rules cover most early deaths and stalls:

  • Dying costs a portal. Maxroll explains that the more modifiers a Waystone has, the fewer portals you get; a six-modifier Waystone leaves one. Lose them all and the map's extra content is gone.
  • Kill the boss before the side content. Breaches and Rituals are never required for completion. Maxroll's tip is to finish the map objective first, then go back.
  • You cannot run out of Waystones early. Doryani sells them and restocks when you level, and three Waystones of one tier combine into one of the next tier at the Reforging Bench.
  • Waystones must be identified before the map device accepts them (a 0.5.0 change).

Zizaran's short Atlas video from June is the gentlest introduction to the new layout if you prefer to see it on screen.

The Fortress comes first

The main storyline is called Origins of Divinity. According to the 0.5.0 patch notes, a Precursor Fortress rises once you complete your first Tower, and maps inside the Fortress grant one or more Atlas passive points each. That is now the only way to earn general Atlas points.

Two details change how you plan:

  • The Atlas tree has over 300 nodes and you can allocate all of them (Maxroll counts 301 for the main tree). There is no respec because none is needed; nodes with several options can be switched at any time.
  • Since 0.5.5, defeating the Arbiter of Divinity through the repeatable, non-quest version of the fight completes the entire Fortress for the map owner. Before that patch the notes described five kills to finish it section by section.

The route inside is: find the keys in the Fortress, beat the Arbiter of Ash to open the centre, then face the Arbiter of Divinity. Maxroll notes the first, quest version of that fight is a weaker introduction. A thread on the official forum this week shows how much the community values this step: players there call a full tree a night-and-day difference and already expect people to pay for Arbiter carries. If your build can do it, the Fortress should be finished before you invest in any farming strategy.

Climbing Waystone tiers

Waystones run from Tier 1 to Tier 15; Maxroll adds that Tier 16 only appears by corrupting a Tier 15 with a Vaal Orb. The reliable way up is the Powerful Map Boss: these always drop a Waystone of a higher tier. Maxroll's trick is to spend low-tier Waystones travelling between boss maps and save your best ones for the boss maps themselves.

For your first Atlas points from around Tier 6, the same guide picks Pathkeepers and Atop the World for more Waystone drops. Overseer Precursor Tablets add Powerful Bosses to maps.

Masters of the Atlas

Three Masters add a second layer on top of the tree. The patch notes give each one 12 options, of which four can be selected, and you can swap Masters between maps.

  • Doryani (unlocked by clearing a corruption nexus) tunes Waystones; Maxroll highlights an extra revival per map.
  • Hilda (campsite south-west of your start) is about monsters and bosses, including a chance for maps to contain a Powerful Map Boss.
  • Jado (an anomaly map near the start) leans towards uniques, strongboxes and corrupted Waystones.

Take Doryani's extra revival or Hilda's boss chance while progressing, and switch to a farming setup later.

Mechanic hubs and their bosses

Every league mechanic now has a hub with a questline that teaches it and leads to its top boss. Maps around a hub always contain that mechanic and award points for that mechanic's own tree.

The notes also state that each pinnacle boss has a quest version reached deterministically and a harder repeatable version. Do each quest version once; it is the cheapest boss practice the game offers.

Gearing roadmap

StageDefence targetWhat to work on
Tier 1 to 575% Fire, Cold, LightningCurrent-tier flasks, movement speed boots, resistance runes in sockets
Tier 6 to 1040 to 50% Chaos ResistanceRemaining ascendancy points, Runic Ward on armour
Tier 11 to 15Chaos Resistance near 75%Soul Cores in sockets, instilled amulet, jewels
Fortress doneEnough to survive six-modifier mapsRarity on gear, tablets for one chosen mechanic

The resistance targets are Maxroll's. The rest follows from where each system unlocks. Ascendancy points five and six need a level 60+ Djinn Barya with three floors or a ten-round Trial of Chaos; points seven and eight need a four-floor Sekhemas run with its pinnacle boss, or the Trial of Chaos pinnacle fight with all three Fate fragments. Runic Ward comes from Runeforging armour at the Verisium Anvil; the 0.5.0 notes warn that armour above level 55 trades some base defences for it. Soul Cores come from the Trial of Chaos and were broadly buffed in 0.5.5, including cores that add +2% to a maximum elemental resistance in a specific slot.

For veterans

  • Tablets behave differently. Tablets of the same type stack to add more of that content, and every empty tablet slot adds random other league content. Full slots mean you only see what you brought, which is why you no longer need trees for mechanics you skip.
  • 0.5.5 additions. Large Abyssal Ravines appear on the Atlas and maps on them always contain Abysses. Expedition Tablets exist outside the Runes of Aldur league: the first adds an Expedition, the second a Verisium Remnant and 35% Expedition density, the third another Expedition and the fourth another Remnant and another 35%. Extra Ritual Tablets add an altar.
  • Expedition has its own tree. Patch 0.5.4 added an Expedition Atlas tree whose points come from the bosses of the Grand Expedition questline, so that hub is worth finishing even if you never plan to farm it.
  • Trials are farmable content now. Both trials gained inherent bonuses by area level to make up for Atlas passives not applying inside them, and the Trial of Chaos can be left and resumed.
  • Boss resistances moved. The Arbiter of Ash now has Fire Resistance and Cold Vulnerability; the Arbiter of Divinity has Lightning Resistance and Fire Vulnerability. Plan damage types for carries accordingly.
  • Party completion. Completion of fixed Atlas locations is shared with party members, but the Fortress auto-complete applies to the map owner.
  • For a 0.5.5-specific route, P4wnyhof's Atlas video links the tree he uses after a single Arbiter of Divinity kill.
