PoE 2 currency farming in patch 0.5.5 looks different from the start of the Runes of Aldur league: the Trial of Chaos was rebuilt into a real farm, Ritual gained extra altars, and a few favourites from the summer were trimmed. This overview was checked in October 2026 and covers the Forbidden Rites league, which runs until the 1.0 release on December 11. It sorts six strategies by how much you need to invest before they pay.

New here? Start with this

Most new players believe income is the Exalted Orbs that drop on the floor. Maxroll's Currency Guide calls that the most common misconception: the bulk of your money is ordinary stackable drops that you actually sell.

Six habits behind every currency strategy in Path of Exile 2
The basics from Maxroll's Currency Guide, in order

In practice:

  • Use a loot filter. You cannot sell what you did not see.
  • Sell stackables on the Currency Exchange. Talk to Alva, put Exalted Orb on the I Want side and your item on the I Have side, and you see what buyers pay. The guide's list of easy sales includes Waystones, Jeweller's Orbs, Gemcutter's Prisms, Distilled Emotions, Essences and Catalysts.
  • Dump-tab rares. Set one public tab to a fixed low price and fill it. If one item gets several whispers at once, pull it and price-check that one properly.
  • Keep playing. The guide's rule of thumb is to treat your hideout as lava: minutes spent sorting are minutes not spent killing.

A player on the official forum asked this month why the endgame feels so expensive. The most useful reply described the normal path: start on a build that functions with almost no currency, farm with it, then upgrade or reroll. Every strategy below assumes you did that first.

Set up before any strategy

Three things raise the return of everything else.

  1. Finish the Precursor Fortress. Maxroll's tablet and Delirium strategy pages both state that they require a fully completed Atlas tree.
  2. Craft your Waystones. The recurring recipe is a Tier 15 Waystone, Exalted Orbs up to six modifiers, then a Vaal Orb. The guides say not to use Greater Exalted Orbs for this.
  3. Carry item rarity. For heavily juiced maps Maxroll suggests 100 to 150% increased rarity of items found across your gear.

Budget strategies

Irradiated tablet farming. Run three Irradiated Tablets rolled with increased quantity of Waystones and increased monster effectiveness. Maxroll explains the counter-intuitive part: tablets for a specific mechanic lower your odds of dropping that same tablet, while Irradiated ones add random mechanics without that penalty. The key Atlas choice is Mountain Mastery, which raises tablet drops by 50% in Mountain biomes, and the Expedition passive Cultivate the Sea makes Ocean maps count as Mountain. You sell the tablets and Waystones.

Delirium boss rush. Three Delirium Tablets, break the mirror, path straight to the boss, collect Simulacrum Splinters and Liquid Emotions. Maxroll rates it the best way to explore your Atlas quickly, because map bosses can reveal a Grand Mirror that spreads lasting Delirium fog. That fog builds from 0 to 200% as you kill and carries from map to map. Aim it at City biomes and save those maps for a bigger strategy later.

Trial of Chaos. This is the new entry. Since 0.5.5 the trial pays only currency and Soul Cores, drops a chest after every room so a death no longer wipes the run, and can be continued twice after room ten, with an optional double-or-nothing currency wager each time. It also has built-in bonuses because Atlas passives do not apply inside, so it is a farm that does not depend on how far your Atlas tree has come. 787prada's breakdown video describes an average of about five Divine Orbs per run with a worst case of no raw Divines at all; treat that as one player's report.

Vaal Temple and Atziri. Six Energised Crystals open a Temple. Maxroll's guide sets the minimum at two Temples to reach Atziri and notes the Temple must be area level 75 or higher when you defeat the Architect. Income is steady Temple currency plus rare jackpots; since 0.5.4 Atziri's vault can also drop Orbs of Sacrifice.

High-investment strategies

Ritual omens. Ritual rewards in the endgame are uniques and omens, and Maxroll singles out omens such as Whittling and the Annulment pair as worth many Divine Orbs. Two rules from its guide: reroll pages instead of buying filler, and keep 1,000 to 1,500 Tribute in reserve so you can always defer a jackpot item. MisoxShiru's recent video argues that Tier 16 maps now clearly beat Tier 15 for Ritual and puts his own result above 95 Divines an hour without City maps. UncoveringExile also rates Ritual near the top but warns that the right tablets are very expensive.

200% Delirium City Expeditions. UncoveringExile ranks this first for raw currency in 0.5.5, with a self-reported rate above 80 Divines an hour: a City map under full Delirium fog with a Grand Expedition's worth of Remnants in it. Regular Grand Expeditions only make fifth place on his list because of variance.

For veterans

  • What got worse. UncoveringExile's notes say Abyss omen farming on cities was hit in 0.5.5 and now works better as a travel-map mechanic, and that Breach rare farming favours groups. The patch notes confirm the direction: stabilised Breaches spawn rares in waves of five and the Breach tablet modifier that adds rares on stabilising dropped from 1-3 to 1-2, Grand Mirror fog now spreads to 10 maps, and Delirium pack counts stop scaling past 100% Deliriousness.
  • Azmeri Spirits were reined in. A released spirit now only has a chance to manifest again, split between the spirits on a monster. Strategies built on chaining possessions lost consistency.
  • Ritual gained levers. Extra Ritual Tablets add an altar, party members now earn their own Tribute, and the Royal Lenience notable lets Tribute already offered to the King pay for deferrals at 500% more cost.
  • League-only upside. Sacred Blooms from Ritual add the Viridian Wildwood to a cluster of maps; the wisps you collect empower that map's monsters. Maxroll's summary: blue wisps turn monsters magic, yellow add modifiers to rares, purple add rarity. Blooms exist only in Forbidden Rites.
  • Remnant jackpots are rare. One forum poster reports more than 400 Grand Expeditions without seeing a ten-slot Remnant. Do not budget around one.
  • Mind the calendar. Both leagues end with 1.0. Raw currency farmed in November has a short shelf life, so convert it into the gear you actually want to play with rather than hoarding.
